Aller in autumn: what to see and do in September and October
After summer, Aller slows down: beech woods, water, mountains and quieter days in the valley. This guide brings together the strongest September and October plans from a base in Santibáñez de Murias.

El Gumial: Aller’s standout autumn forest
Aller Tourism lists PR-AS 48 as a medium-difficulty linear route of about 9.4 km and roughly four hours between El Fielato and Cuevas.
Asturias Tourism highlights the beech forest as especially colourful in autumn. Check the official route before setting out and adapt the day to your group and current conditions.
Xurbeo and Foces del Pino: water and limestone landscapes
Xurbeo waterfall and Foces del Pino add contrasting scenery without forcing every day into a long hike. Aller Tourism includes both among its essential nature sites and maintains practical route information.

September: plan around the deer rut responsibly
The red-deer rut gives September and early autumn a distinctive wildlife angle, but sightings can never be guaranteed.

From 16 September: Asturias Rural Tourism Voucher
In 2026 the voucher can be used again after the excluded 1 July–15 September period. A voucher has a value of €150 and is purchased for €75, subject to the official conditions.
For stays starting on or after 16 September, check availability first and then confirm how the voucher applies.
September 2026: four confirmed theatrical-route dates
The official Verano en Aller 2026 programme keeps four theatrical-route dates in September, combining local heritage and nature before the summer programme ends.
Places and confirmation depend on the official booking system. Check each activity page before travelling and do not assume an activity place is included with accommodation.
- The Secrets of Pozo San Fernando: Saturday 5 and Sunday 13 September 2026.
- Xurbeo Mitológico: Sunday 6 and Saturday 12 September 2026.
A 2-night autumn break
- Arrive and slow down in Santibáñez de Murias and the Río Negro valley.
- Choose one main nature day: El Gumial for a fuller hike, or Xurbeo plus a lighter nearby plan.
- Keep flexibility for the deer rut or another seasonal plan when real conditions support it.
- Use the remaining time for the valley rather than collecting distant attractions.
A 4-night autumn break
- Give El Gumial a full day.
- Combine Xurbeo or Foces del Pino with villages and heritage.
- Keep one flexible day for the deer rut, Coto Bello or another mountain experience.
- Leave one easier day to discover Aller without turning the trip into a checklist.
If the weather changes, change the plan
Autumn works best with alternatives. If a mountain route is not appropriate, use the main Aller guide to switch towards heritage, villages and lower-exposure plans.
